Work out how many kWh an AC or any appliance uses per month and how much it adds to your bill under the official residential tariff tiers in Egypt (EgyptERA) and Saudi Arabia (SERA).
The calculator gives the energy charge by tier. Real bills can add other charges (such as VAT and meter fees in Saudi Arabia). Find the wattage on the label or in the manual; an inverter AC runs below its maximum most of the time, so treat the result as an upper estimate.
Egypt residential tiers (piastres per kWh)
| Tier (kWh/month) | EgyptERA, April 2026 | August 2026 per Al-Masry Al-Youm |
|---|---|---|
| 0–50 (homes using up to 100) | 68 | 87 |
| 51–100 | 78 | 87 |
| 0–200 (homes using 101–650) | 95 | 100 |
| 201–350 | 155 | 173 |
| 351–650 | 195 | 218 |
| 0–1000 flat (homes using 651–1000) | 210 | 235 |
| All kWh flat (above 1000) | 258 | 289 |
Monthly customer service charge (EGP) by bracket, from the same EgyptERA page: 1, 2, 6, 11, 15, 25, 40.
Saudi residential tiers (halalas per kWh)
| Tier | Price |
|---|---|
| 1–6000 | 18 |
| Above 6000 | 30 |
How it works
- kWh per month = watts × hours × days × units ÷ 1000.
- Egypt: tiers are grouped. Homes using up to 100 pay 0–50 and 51–100 rates. Homes using 101–650 start from zero at 0–200, then 201–350, then 351–650. Above 650 or 1000, every kWh is billed at one price. So we compute the bill twice (without and with the appliance); the difference is its real cost.
- Saudi Arabia: the first 6,000 kWh at 18 halalas and anything above at 30 halalas.
Why two Egypt price sets?
The official EgyptERA page we read shows the April 2026 tariff. Al-Masry Al-Youm reported that the Ministry of Electricity applied an increase from the August 2026 bill (first tier unchanged). We could not find the new prices on the regulator's site on the check date, so both are shown and you choose. The EgyptERA page returned 404 to our direct request on 25 October 2026, so we used its text as shown in the search index the same day; it is still linked from the regulator's home page.

FAQ
How much does a 1.5 HP AC use?
We do not use a fixed number because power differs by model and inverter technology. Read the electrical input power in watts from the outdoor unit label or the manual and enter it.
Why does an appliance raise the bill by more than one tier price?
In Egypt, going above 650 or 1,000 kWh bills every kWh at one higher price, so the kWh you already used also become more expensive.
Do prices include tax?
The calculator shows only the published tier energy charge. Saudi bills add VAT and meter fees.
When were prices checked?
25 October 2026. If the tariff changes we will update the page and the date.
